I just got my latest share of organic produce from Purple Dragon, and met my first kiwi berry.
High in vitamin C, calcium and fiber, kiwi berries are about the size of an olive, and when you slice them, look just like a kiwi, sans the brown fuzz, which is nice, because you can just pop them in your mouth without peeling.
They are bursting with flavor, and much more intense than the kiwi. Mine taste like strawberry, citrus, and banana, and are less tart than the kiwi.
Kiwi berries can be eaten alone, used as an attractive garnish to a fruit based dessert or fruit salad, make for a delicious complement to fish or chicken in a salsa, or be used to add some pizazz to your favorite smoothie recipe.
They are not widely cultivated, mostly appear at the end of the summer, so grab them up if you can find them!
